Anita Moore has worked with the Credit Counselling Society since 2005. She started as a Credit Counsellor and has worked as a Financial Educator for the past eight years.
The Credit Counselling Society is an accredited non-profit charity that helps Canadians with their money. Since opening their doors in 1996, they have helped over one million Canadians with their personal finances through credit counselling and education. Their first office was in New Westminster, and they now serve Canadians in five provinces. Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver has been a proud partner with CCS for the last seven years.
As part of our Education Series, Anita has delivered three workshops this year to our new Mission and Richmond families. CCS has over 30 workshops, covering topics such as Budgets, Credit and Debit and Retirement Planning. Anita’s favourite workshop to deliver is The Truth About Credit. According to Anita, “many consumers don’t know enough about credit. Credit is and always will be so important regardless of what stage in life you are in.”
Anita’s passion for her work is evident. She warmly connects with our families, makes each of them feel comfortable, and shares her wisdom and advice with generosity and encouragement. She knows that talking about money isn’t easy for everyone and frequently reminds our families of the best advice she has received:
“Always make sure you are earning more than what you are spending and have a savings plan.”
Some important advise that Anita has provided our families is to create a budget using total net income and total monthly expenses, have a plan to pay off debt as quickly as possible and to set reasonable financial goals, including setting up an emergency fund. She recommends everyone visit https://www.savvynewcanadians.com to continue their learning journey.
Anita enjoys being a part of our Education Series and values Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to improve the financial literacy skills of our families. We are grateful to Anita for bringing her experience, wisdom, advice, and warm smiles to our workshops. Our partnership with the Credit Counselling Society and our relationship with Anita has been instrumental in advancing our mission to help families build strength, stability, and independence. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Credit Counselling Society and delivering a range of exciting workshops to our future new Coquitlam families.
